The Justice Department Inspector General's report revealed that there were more than two dozen confidential human sources present at the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, with only three assigned by the FBI to be there. None of the sources were authorized or directed by the FBI to break the law or encourage illegal acts. The FBI had a minor supporting role in responding to the event, as it was not considered a high-security threat. Of the 26 sources present, only three were directed by the FBI to attend, with one entering the Capitol and the other two entering restricted areas.
