The U.S. Department of Transportation fined JetBlue $2 million for operating multiple chronically delayed flights, the first penalty of its kind by the agency. An investigation found that JetBlue operated four chronically delayed flights at least 145 times between June 2022 and November 2023, with the airline responsible for over 70% of the delays. JetBlue must pay half the penalty to the U.S. Treasury and the other $1 million to compensate affected passengers, with a minimum of $75 per passenger. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the importance of realistic flight schedules to protect passengers and ensure fair competition in the airline industry. JetBlue stated that it had invested millions to reduce delays and had made significant improvements in 2024.
