A year after a panel blew out of a Boeing 737 Max during flight, the Federal Aviation Administration chief Mike Whitaker emphasized the need for a cultural shift at Boeing to prioritize safety and quality over profits. Whitaker reflected on the decision to ground all 737 Max jets with similar panels last January and highlighted the FAA's increased oversight of Boeing. Boeing has taken steps to improve safety and quality, including addressing employee concerns and reinforcing confidentiality protection, as well as strengthening training for mechanics and quality inspectors. The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the door-plug blowout incident on an Alaska Airlines Max jet, with the FAA committed to reviewing any recommendations for improving oversight work.
