Spirit Airlines has rejected a new takeover offer from rival budget carrier Frontier, despite Frontier's claim that the proposal would create a stronger low fare airline. Frontier's chairman, Bill Franke, stated that the merger would result in more value than Spirit's standalone plan. However, Spirit deemed the offer "woefully insufficient financially" and aims to exit bankruptcy proceedings in the first quarter of 2025. Frontier believes that a merger would enhance long-term viability for both airlines and enable them to compete more effectively in new markets. Talks of a potential merger between Frontier and Spirit had previously occurred in 2022, but a deal with JetBlue ultimately fell through last year.
