A 66-year-old man from New Hampshire received a genetically modified pig kidney in a successful transplant at Massachusetts General Hospital. This was the fourth pig kidney transplant in the United States and part of a new clinical trial approved by the FDA to address the shortage of human donor organs. The recipient, Tim Andrews, had been on dialysis for over two years and felt significantly better after the surgery. The pig kidney had undergone 69 gene edits to reduce the risk of infection to humans.
