The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has terminated the lease at the Obama Presidential Library site in Hoffman Estates, Chicago, which is scheduled to close later this year and move to a new location. The library, run by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), houses 25 million unclassified paper documents and 35,000 physical artifacts, including items gifted to the Obamas. The termination of the lease is part of DOGE's efforts to cut wasteful federal spending and will save taxpayers $468 million in lease savings. The Obama Presidential Center, a separate project under construction in Chicago, is expected to open next year after facing delays and cost overruns.
