Nearly two dozen Democratic attorneys general have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to stop the layoffs of half of the Department of Education's workforce. The lawsuit claims the layoffs are unconstitutional and aims to halt the administration's efforts to dismantle the department. New York Attorney General Letitia James stated that the layoffs will disproportionately affect students from low-income families or with disabilities. The lawsuit, filed in Massachusetts federal court, names President Trump, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, and the Education Department as defendants. Democratic attorneys general from 19 states and the District of Columbia have joined New York in the lawsuit.
