Wanneroo Raceway Celebrates 100th Supercars Championship Race with Super 440 Format

This weekend, the Wanneroo Raceway will host its 100th Supercars championship race, becoming the first circuit in Australia to achieve this milestone. The event will feature 26 V8 Supercar drivers and 12 teams competing in the new Super 440 format, which includes a mix of sprint and endurance races. The action-packed weekend will kick off with practice sessions on Friday, followed by back-to-back qualifying sessions on Saturday and multiple races, culminating in a 200km refuelling race on Sunday.

Reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Brodie Kostecki, racing for Dick Johnson Racing alongside teammate Will Davison, is eager to perform well in front of his hometown crowd at Wanneroo. Kostecki, who hails from Ballajura, has fond memories of the raceway where his racing journey began at a young age. Despite his sentimental attachment to Wanneroo, Kostecki supports the State Government's plan to introduce a street circuit in Burswood, which is expected to host V8 Supercars from 2027.

Will Davison, a seasoned Supercars driver, also expressed his support for the Burswood circuit plan, emphasizing the positive impact it could have on the local motorsport community. The upcoming event at Wanneroo marks the 46th time the Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars Championship has been held at the track, with a rich history of manufacturers claiming victories. Holden leads with 50 wins, followed by Ford, Nissan, and Chevrolet. Craig Lowndes holds the record for the most wins at Wanneroo with 16 victories.

In addition to the Supercars races, the event will feature support categories such as V8 SuperUtes, Trans Am/TA2 (Muscle Car Series), WA Historic Touring Cars, and the Aussie Racing Cars championship. Ticket sales for the event have been strong, and the WA Tourism and Sports Minister Rita Saffioti encourages fans to experience the new racing format and support the local economy. Don't miss the thrilling action at the Wanneroo Raceway this weekend!
