Billy Joel: And So It Goes" Documentary Reveals Struggles and Triumphs of the Music Legend

Billy Joel's upcoming documentary, "Billy Joel: And So It Goes," offers a revealing look into his life. The documentary, set to premiere on HBO in July, delves into some surprising details from Joel's early years. During the premiere at the Tribecca Film Festival in New York City, Joel shared his struggles following an affair with his bandmate's wife, which led to two suicide attempts and a coma. The affair caused the breakup of their band and friendship, leaving Joel in a downward spiral of depression and self-destructive behavior.
After confessing to the affair and facing the consequences, Joel found himself homeless and battling severe depression. He attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills, resulting in a coma. Following this incident, he made a second suicide attempt by drinking "lemon Pledge," which led to his friend Jon Small rushing him to the hospital. Despite the strain on their friendship, Small ultimately forgave Joel, recognizing the depth of their bond.
Following his suicide attempts, Joel sought help and checked himself into an observation ward. He emerged from this experience with a renewed perspective, channeling his emotions into his music. Despite missing the premiere event due to health issues, Joel remains committed to his recovery. In May, he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), prompting him to cancel all upcoming performances to focus on his health and well-being.
