Remembering Miti Adhikari: A Tribute to the Legendary Music Producer and Sound Engineer

The music industry mourns the loss of the legendary music producer and sound engineer, Miti Adhikari, who passed away at the age of 69. Known for his work with iconic bands such as Nirvana, Radiohead, and Foo Fighters, Adhikari, affectionately called the 'Silver Fox', has left behind a lasting legacy that spans decades. Growing up in Kolkata, he honed his musical skills playing the bass guitar for a local band before making a name for himself at the renowned Maida Vale Studios under BBC Radio, where he served as the chief sound engineer for over three decades.
During his tenure at Vale Studios, Adhikari played a pivotal role in engineering live sessions for some of the biggest names in rock history, including Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, and James Blake, among others. His passion for music was ignited when a family friend helped him secure a job at the BBC at the age of 20, propelling him into a successful career in mixing and producing. Following his final festival appearance at Glastonbury 2011, where he worked with headliners like Coldplay, U2, and Beyoncé, Adhikari decided to retire, marking the end of an era in his illustrious career.
In the early 2000s, Adhikari felt a strong desire to return to India and make a meaningful contribution to the music scene. This aspiration was solidified when he came across the demos of Kolkata-based indie band The Supersonics, leading him to produce their debut album 'Maby Baking' and ultimately prompting his decision to move back to his homeland. Upon his return to India in 2014, Adhikari brought his wealth of experience to the independent music scene, collaborating with various indie acts such as The Ganesh Talkies, Menwhopause, The Ska Vengers, and Nischay Parekh, further enriching the musical landscape with his expertise and passion for music.
