Triathlon Community Unites: The Heel and Crank Duathlon and Team Rocket Tri Club's Mission

A group of 140 athletes recently participated in a run/bike/run duathlon in Huntsville, Alabama, organized by the local nonprofit Team Rocket Tri Club. The event, known as the Heel and Crank Duathlon, aimed to raise funds for individuals affected by ALS and muscular dystrophy. The race, which consists of a 5K run, an 11-mile bike ride, and a 2.2-mile run, has been a staple in the community for the past 19 years, drawing participants who appreciate the sense of camaraderie and support within the triathlon community.

Ashlyn Byrge, one of the organizers of the event, highlighted the growth of the race over the years and emphasized the welcoming nature of the triathlon community. She noted that many athletes return to the race year after year due to the positive energy and excitement that surrounds the event. The Heel and Crank Duathlon serves as a kickoff race for Team Rocket Tri Club, with all proceeds going towards the Alabama chapter of ALS.

In addition to the Heel and Crank Duathlon, Team Rocket Tri Club is hosting several other races throughout the summer, including the Pesky Piranha Youth Tri, the Huntsville Sprint Tri, the Rocketman race, Swim Hobbs Island, and Racin' the Station. These events provide opportunities for athletes of all levels to participate in triathlons and duathlons while supporting a good cause.
