Update on Tropical Storm Barbara: Potential Impact on Southwest Mexico

Tropical Storm Barbara has developed near the southwest coast of Mexico, as reported by the National Hurricane Center in Miami. There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 6 inches, across regions of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco in Mexico until Monday. This precipitation could result in flooding and mudslides. Swells along the southwestern Mexico coast may create dangerous surf and rip currents over the next few days. Barbara has maximum sustained winds of around 45 mph with the potential to become a hurricane by Monday.
