Princess Kate's Visit to V East Storehouse: Celebrating Creativity and Access to Art
Princess Kate made a visit to the newly opened V&A East Storehouse to promote creative access and the positive impact of creative expression. During her visit, Princess Kate received a special tour of the museum and gained insights into the conservation and display processes of the remarkable objects housed there, including the largest Picasso work in the world. This impressive piece, created on cloth and measuring 10.4m by 11.7m, was originally designed by the artist as a backdrop for a Ballets Russes performance of Le Train Bleu in 1924. The V&A East Storehouse, developed in collaboration with young people and inspired by the creative heritage of east London, aims to make the nation's creative treasures accessible to all, serving as a source of inspiration and joy for everyone.
Engaging with the Storehouse's new Collections Access team, Princess Kate learned about their efforts to engage with local communities and unlock the stories behind the museum's collections. She also participated in the 'Order an Object' service, where individuals can schedule a free appointment to view an object up close and have a personalized session with a member of the Access team. Today's visit marked Princess Kate's first public engagement since May 22, emphasizing the significance of creative opportunities and the ability of creativity to bring happiness.
As she gradually resumes her royal duties following her cancer treatment last summer, Princess Kate's presence at the V&A East Storehouse underscores her commitment to highlighting the importance of creativity and celebrating its positive impact on our lives. In January, she shared that she is now in remission, showcasing her resilience and determination in overcoming challenges.
