Tell Everyone: A Historical Drama Set in a Finnish Mental Asylum

Production has begun in Finland on the historical drama Tell Everyone, directed by Alli Haapasalo. The film is based on the novel Amanda Of The Night by Katja Kallio and is being shot at the Seili mental asylum on the Finnish archipelago. The story follows Amanda, a woman confined to an isolated mental asylum island who defies society's expectations for outcast women. The cast includes Marketta Tikkanen, Krista Kosonen, Alma Poysti, Aamu Milonoff, Jakob Ohrman, Noora Dadu, Fanni Noroila, Tiina Weckstrom, Wilma Melasniemi, Terhi Suorlahti, and Inke Koskinen.
Tell Everyone is produced by Teea Hyytia for Helsinki-filmi and is set for an autumn 2026 premiere. The film is supported by the Finnish Film Foundation, Yleisradio, Finnish Impact Film Fund, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, West Finland Film Commission, and SF Studios, which holds Nordic theatrical rights and will distribute the film in Finland. The director, Haapasalo, describes the film as a story of resilience, highlighting Amanda's strength and the meaningful relationships she forms while in captivity.
Haapasalo's previous film, Girl Picture, premiered at Sundance in 2022 and received critical acclaim, winning the audience award in the World Cinema – Dramatic category. The film went on to screen at various festivals and garnered multiple award nominations and wins, including best film at Finland's Jussi Awards. It was also Finland's submission for the 2023 international feature Oscar. The director praises the predominantly female cast of Tell Everyone, emphasizing the diverse and compelling portrayal of women's life stories in the film.
