2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game Preview: Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions
Get ready for some NFL action as the Los Angeles Chargers face off against the Detroit Lions in the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. This game marks the first time since 2000 that an NFL preseason game will be played in July.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will honor Chargers legend Antonio Gates, along with cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe. The Lions, who were the NFC's No. 1 seed last season but were upset in the Divisional Round, will be the designated home team for the game.
After losing key coordinators, the Lions have appointed new offensive coordinator John Morton and promoted Kelvin Sheppard to replace the departed defensive coordinator. Meanwhile, the Chargers, led by head coach Jim Harbaugh, are looking to bounce back from a playoff loss last season.
Quarterback Justin Herbert, who had a strong regular season but struggled in the playoffs, will not play in the game. Instead, Trey Lance and undrafted rookie DJ Uiagalelei will take the field for the Chargers. The Lions will have Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen as their quarterbacks for the exhibition game.
