Lucinda's: A Honky-Tonk Haven in the Heart of the East Village

Lucinda Williams, the renowned Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, recently launched her own bar called "Lucinda's" in New York City's East Village. The bar, situated at 169 Avenue A, was formerly known as Brownie's and now embodies country music and honky-tonk vibes. Williams, along with partners Laura McCarthy and Kelley Swindall, inaugurated the bar with a lively event attended by around 150 people.
During the opening night, Williams performed a dynamic set of ten songs, including her hit "Let's Get the Band Back Together" and the classic "Joy" from her album "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." McCarthy, a co-founder of Brownie's, expressed her enthusiasm for transforming the space into a honky-tonk bar, citing the magical musical aura of the location that has been felt since the days of Brownie's in the late '80s.
Lucinda's will host various musical events, such as live country music on weekends, bluegrass nights, and songwriter open mics on Sundays. Special gatherings like the East Village Cxntry Club, a queer country party, will also be part of the bar's offerings. Williams emphasized the significance of having a bar named after her in New York City, aiming to provide a laid-back atmosphere for patrons to relax, listen to music, and have a good time.
The bar officially opens to the public on July 31, featuring a curated playlist of Delta blues, local art, and memorabilia. The opening night was filled with lively conversations, music, and drinks as guests immersed themselves in the honky-tonk ambiance of Lucinda's. The bar promises to be a vibrant hub for music lovers and enthusiasts of country and blues genres in the heart of the East Village.
