The Beatles Connection: Zak Starkey's Drumming Journey with Oasis

Before Oasis rose to fame, a band from Liverpool, led by the Gallagher brothers, had already won over dedicated fans. The brothers openly expressed their admiration for The Beatles, with Noel even stating that the iconic band meant everything to him. Surprisingly, Liam and Noel took their Beatles fandom to the next level by enlisting Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, as a touring drummer for Oasis in the mid-2000s. Although not an official member, Zak's drumming was featured on albums like Don't Believe the Truth and Dig Out Your Soul between 2004 and 2008.
During an interview on BBC Breakfast, Zak Starkey shared his disappointment at not being included in Oasis' reunion shows. Despite expressing his willingness to join the band on tour, he acknowledged that they had become comfortable with new musicians. Zak, who is also known for his role as the drummer for The Who, faced some drama with the band, including being dismissed and rehired after a dispute at the Royal Albert Hall.
Apart from his work with The Who, Zak is part of the supergroup Mantra of the Cosmos, alongside members like Bez, Shaun Ryder, and former Oasis bassist Andy Bell. The group recently released a single called Domino Blues, written by Noel Gallagher. Despite not being part of Oasis' current line-up, Zak has maintained a close friendship with Noel Gallagher for over two decades.
For Oasis' upcoming 41-night tour, Joey Waronker, an American drummer known for his work with artists like Elliot Smith and Beck, will be taking over the drumming duties. Joey has previously played with Liam Gallagher and John Squire and is set to perform at Wembley Stadium for over 90,000 fans during the highly anticipated return of the Gallagher brothers to the capital.
