Challenging U.S. Global Dominance: Left-Wing Lawmakers Unite at Panamerican Congress in Mexico City

Several left-wing American lawmakers attended a summit in Mexico City aimed at challenging U.S. global dominance. The Panamerican Congress brought together leftist delegates from the Americas, including Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. The event was organized by Progressive International and Mexico's ruling party, Morena. The summit focused on confronting rising authoritarian and fascist threats and shifting decision-making authority away from the U.S.
During the event, Rep. Delia Ramirez expressed anti-American sentiment, stating she is a proud Guatemalan before being American. She criticized the U.S. for its addiction to war and imperialism. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas was also a prominent topic at the summit, with speakers referring to it as a genocide. Lawmakers like Omar and Tlaib discussed the Palestinian cause and were praised for their efforts against fascism.
Other Democrat delegates, including Reps. Ayanna Presley, Summer Lee, and Jesús Gilberto García, also participated in the event. Progressive International criticized U.S. imperialism and advocated for closer ties with China. The group condemned President Trump's tariffs as coercive policies. Trump granted Mexico a trade deal extension following a successful phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who attended the summit.
Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Mexican Senate, denounced fascism and the persecution of migrants in the U.S. He criticized the Trump administration's immigration crackdown as unjust. The event aimed to coordinate a collective strategy against what was perceived as coercive U.S. policies. The summit provided a platform for discussions on global power dynamics and solidarity among left-wing delegates.
