Texas State Representative Brian Harrison Criticizes CNN's Coverage of Redistricting Battle

Texas State Representative Brian Harrison, a Republican, criticized CNN for its coverage of the redistricting battle in Texas, highlighting other states with more gerrymandered districts. President Donald Trump has supported redrawing district maps in Texas to gain five additional seats for the Republican Party. Despite the Texas House planning to vote on redistricting, 50 Democratic lawmakers left for Massachusetts, New York, and Illinois, causing the chamber to fail to reach a quorum. The Texas House did manage to pass a motion calling for the arrest of these lawmakers.

Harrison defended the proposed redistricting on CNN's The Source, emphasizing its legality and constitutionality. He pointed out that major media outlets, including CNN, did not question Illinois Governor JB Pritzker about the gerrymandering in his state, where 82% of House seats are held by Democrats. Harrison also mentioned California and New York as states with significant partisan disparities in House seats compared to overall votes.

During the interview, host Katilan Collins showed a montage of CNN clips discussing gerrymandering in Illinois, but Harrison noted that Pritzker was not directly questioned in any of them. Despite Collins' defense of CNN's coverage, Harrison maintained his stance that the network failed to hold Democratic leaders accountable for gerrymandering practices. Texas representatives are set to reconvene on Tuesday at 1 p.m. to continue discussions on redistricting.
