The Hero Who Stopped the Kidnapping of Princess Anne Speaks Out Against Perpetrator's Release

The man who thwarted the attempted kidnapping of Princess Anne has criticized the decision to release the perpetrator, stating that he should have been dealt with more severely. In 1974, Ian Ball tried to abduct the Princess Royal, shooting four individuals who intervened. Ball was later detained under the Mental Health Act after admitting to the crimes. However, he has since been released from Broadmoor Hospital, much to the dismay of Ronnie Russell, who intervened during the attack. Russell confronted Ball and landed punches to protect Anne before the police intervened. Ball, now 77, has been campaigning to overturn his conviction, claiming the incident was a hoax. Russell expressed disbelief at Ball's release and criticized his actions, questioning the decision to publish his autobiography and provide him with benefits. He recounted the events of the night, where he bravely intervened to protect Princess Anne and was later honored with the George Medal by the Queen.
