Boston Celtics Trade Georges Niang to Utah Jazz for RJ Luis Jr.: A Look at the Recent Trade and Its Implications

The Boston Celtics have made a trade with the Utah Jazz, sending forward Georges Niang and two future second-round draft picks in exchange for rookie RJ Luis Jr. The trade is pending physical examinations for both players. Niang, who was recently acquired by Boston in a three-team deal involving Kristaps Porzingis, will now join the Utah Jazz, where he previously played for four seasons. Last season, Niang averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while playing for Atlanta and Cleveland.

By trading Niang, the Celtics will save $8 million in luxury taxes for the upcoming season and will be able to stay under the second penalty apron. This move comes after the addition of Chris Boucher, who signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with Boston. Boucher, a seven-year veteran who was part of the Toronto Raptors' championship team in 2019, brings experience and depth to the Celtics' roster.
