The Pogues Celebrate 40th Anniversary of 'Rum Sodomy & The Lash' with Special Edition Release and Tour Dates

The Pogues have announced a special 40th-anniversary edition of their album 'Rum Sodomy & The Lash'. The album was originally released in 1985 and was the band's second album, produced by Elvis Costello. The new edition will be available in a two-LP red marble vinyl version and a deluxe two-CD set. It includes the original tracklist along with bonus tracks from the 'Poguetry In Motion' EP and live recordings from a BBC session in 1985. The release date for the CD versions is September 19 (US October 24), and the vinyl edition will be out on October 24 (US November 28th).

The original album featured tracks like 'The Sick Bed Of CĂșchulainn', 'A Pair Of Brown Eyes', 'Dirty Old Town', and 'The Gentleman Soldier'. The bonus tracks include B-sides like 'The Parting Glass' and 'A Pistol For Paddy Garcia', as well as tracks from the 'Poguetry In Motion EP' and live recordings from a BBC Radio 1 session.

Elvis Costello was initially brought in to work on the singles for the album but ended up producing the entire record. The album reached number 13 on the UK charts upon its release in 1985. The band had announced a UK tour earlier this year to celebrate the anniversary, with guest vocalists joining the original members for the shows.

The Pogues have also announced a series of North American shows starting in September. The tour will include stops in Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, and New York. The band spoke to NME about their upcoming shows, playing without Shane MacGowan, and how Fontaines D.C. helped inspire the anniversary tour.
