Kraken Center John Hayden and Buoy Encounter Brown Bear in Alaska: A Thrilling Adventure in Katmai National Park

Seattle Kraken center John Hayden and their mascot, Buoy, had a thrilling encounter with a brown bear while filming a promotional video in Alaska. The incident occurred during a fly-fishing trip in Katmai National Park, where the bear approached them. A guide accompanying Hayden and Buoy spotted the bear and led them to safety in the shallow river.

During the encounter, the bear made a brief charge towards them before stopping and turning away. Hayden jokingly blamed Buoy's appearance for attracting the bear's attention. Brown bears in Katmai National Park are known for feasting on salmon in the Brooks River, particularly during the annual "Fat Bear Week" contest celebrating their winter preparations.

The Kraken's Partnership Marketing Director, Melissa O’Brochta, who recorded the encounter, mentioned that bears are common in the area and are accustomed to human presence. Hayden and Buoy were in Alaska for an event organized by the Bristol Bay Native Corporation to promote youth ice hockey, as Alaska does not have its own NHL team.

The close encounter with the bear added an unexpected twist to their trip, highlighting the natural beauty and wildlife of Alaska. The Kraken players embraced the experience, showcasing their adventurous spirit in the face of nature's wonders.
