Hulu has greenlit the new comedy series "Phony" from 20th Television, featuring Connie Britton and Sam Nivola in lead roles. The show will center around Sonny, a high school student who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident and realizes that his mother has been replaced by an imposter. Sonny, described as the most popular student at his school, shares a special bond with his mother Ellen.

Nick Paley, known for his work on "Marcel the Shell With Shoes On," will be the writer, director, and showrunner for the half-hour series, with Anthony King as co-showrunner. The show will be executive produced by Britton, King, and Paley, along with Charlie Alderman, Drew Goddard, and Sarah Esberg. Andrea Massaro will serve as a producer on the show.

Paley has directed the pilot episode of "Phony" and has previous experience directing episodes of "Broad City" and "Inside Amy Schumer." King, known for his work on Broadway, has co-written Tony-nominated musicals and has worked on various television series. Britton and Nivola, both known for their roles in "The White Lotus," bring their talent to this new project.

"Phony" will be part of Hulu's original content lineup, joining other popular shows like "Only Murders in the Building" and "Paradise." The series adds to Hulu's diverse range of original programming and promises to be an exciting addition to the platform.
