Spain Surpasses USWNT to Claim Top Spot in FIFA Women’s Rankings

Spain has claimed the top spot in the FIFA Women’s Rankings for the first time since June 2024, surpassing the U.S. women’s national team. The USWNT had held the No. 1 position since June 2024 but has now dropped to No. 2. Under the leadership of Emma Hayes, Spain has secured victories in all three of their recent matches, including two wins against the Republic of Ireland and a victory over Canada. The USWNT, on the other hand, has won five consecutive matches and eight out of their 10 games this year. Yazmeen Ryan and Sam Coffey were standout performers during the summer matches, each scoring two goals. The USWNT is set to play two home friendlies against Portugal in October, with a third match to be announced later.
Following Spain and the U.S. in the rankings are Sweden, England, and Germany in the top five positions. France, Brazil, Japan, Canada, and Korea DPR hold the No. 6-10 spots, with France being the only team to move up within this group. The competition among the top teams in the FIFA Women’s Rankings remains fierce, with each team striving to maintain or improve their position. The rankings reflect the recent performances of the national teams and provide a snapshot of the current standings in women’s international soccer.
