Malik Beasley's NBA Future in Limbo Amid Legal and Financial Challenges
Malik Beasley, a free agent in the NBA, is facing uncertainty due to a federal probe into his alleged involvement in gambling related to NBA games and prop bets. Beasley, who played for the Detroit Pistons in the 2024-25 season, is currently dealing with an eviction order in Detroit after failing to make rental payments to his landlord.
This is not the first time Beasley has faced legal action over rental payment disputes. He previously faced lawsuits for missing payments totaling $21,500 for his unit in a downtown building owned by Bedrock Detroit, which is controlled by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Despite these challenges, Beasley's representatives were reportedly in discussions with the Pistons for a potential multi-year contract before news of the federal gambling probe emerged.
Steve Haney, Beasley's attorney, clarified that his client has not been formally charged with a crime. In addition to the rent lawsuit, Hazan Sports Management Group also filed a suit against Beasley for breaching his contract with the organization and failing to repay a $650,000 advance. Despite these legal issues, Beasley remains optimistic about a potential return to Detroit and has hinted at interest from other NBA teams.
Beasley expressed his willingness to return to the Pistons or explore opportunities with other NBA franchises in a social media post. He averaged 16.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game last season, showcasing his value as a player despite off-court challenges.
