Remembering Shigetoshi Kotari: A Tribute to the Japanese Boxer

The Japanese boxer Shigetoshi Kotari tragically passed away due to a severe brain injury sustained in a match against Yamato Hata in Tokyo. Kotari, aged 28, collapsed after the 12-round fight for Hata's OPBF super featherweight title and underwent emergency brain surgery for a subdural hematoma, also known as a brain hemorrhage. Hailing from Nagoya, Kotari had secured his title shot by winning two consecutive eight-round fights by unanimous decision.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, express deep sorrow over the loss of Shigetoshi Kotari and offer their condolences to his family and loved ones during this challenging period. May he rest in peace.
