The Edge: Celebrating 64 Years of Musical Mastery with U2

The Edge, the renowned lead guitarist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist of the iconic Irish rock band U2, is celebrating his 64th birthday today! Born in East London in 1961 to Welsh parents, The Edge moved to Dublin at a young age and has called it home ever since. He joined U2 in 1976 after responding to an advert by Larry Mullen, and the band has since released over a dozen studio albums and continues to sell out arenas worldwide.

During his high school years at Mount Temple in Dublin, The Edge and his schoolmates formed what would later become U2. The band released their debut album "Boy" in 1980, followed by "October" and "War." Their breakthrough came with the release of "The Joshua Tree" in 1987, solidifying their fame and reputation in the music industry.

The Edge earned his nickname from Bono, the lead singer of U2, in the 1970s due to his sharp facial features and intellect. Known for his love of hats, The Edge rarely performs without one, except on a few special occasions. He has been married twice, first to Aislinn O'Sullivan with whom he has three daughters, and later to Morleigh Steinberg, an American dancer, with whom he has two children.

Despite living in the infamous Los Angeles house where the Menendez brothers committed a notorious crime, The Edge continues to be a celebrated musician and a key member of U2. Happy Birthday, The Edge!
