Ricky Byrd: From Marshalls to Fenders - A Musical Journey

Ricky Byrd, known for his time with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, has recently released his fourth solo album, NYC Made. Reflecting on his past, Byrd discusses his shift in electric guitar gear preferences, moving away from Marshalls to small old Fender amps after being inspired by Jeff Beck's setup at the Iridium in New York. Byrd's musical journey was influenced by guitar legends George Harrison and Keith Richards, whose performances on The Ed Sullivan Show sparked his interest in playing guitar. Byrd's first acoustic guitar was a gift from his mother's boss, and his first electric guitar, resembling a Gibson ES-335, was from Lafayette Electronics. Additionally, Byrd has shared a memorable onstage experience involving being wrongly accused of stealing gear.
