Elio: From Lukewarm Theatrical Run to Home Release Success

Pixar's latest animated sci-fi adventure, Elio, directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, is set to make its digital debut after a lukewarm theatrical run. The film follows a young boy with a passion for aliens who gets caught up in an intergalactic crisis when mistaken for Earth's ambassador. Despite positive reviews, Elio struggled at the box office, but fans can soon enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.
Elio will be available on digital platforms starting Aug. 19, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Physical formats like 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will hit shelves on Sept. 9, complete with bonus features like a gag reel, deleted scenes, and featurettes. The 4K UHD version will also come in a limited edition SteelBook® with cosmic artwork.
While Elio faced challenges at the box office, including marketing issues and Pixar fatigue, its home release is expected to attract families and animation enthusiasts. With its heartfelt story and captivating visuals, Elio has the potential to find a new audience and improve its commercial performance. Despite its box office struggles, Elio has been praised for its creativity and charm, making it a standout in Pixar's filmography.
