Enhancing Transparency: Big 12 Conference Implements Availability Reports for Football and Basketball Games

The Big 12 Conference is aligning with other major conferences by implementing availability reports for football and basketball games. This new policy will require teams to provide reports three days before a game and a final list 90 minutes before kickoff. The reports will include player designations such as available, probable, questionable, doubtful, or out for football, and available, game-time decision, or out for basketball.

The Big Ten Conference initiated this practice in 2023, following the NFL's lead from the 1940s. The SEC adopted it last season, and now the ACC and Big 12 are joining in. The ACC's reports will be released 48 hours before kickoff and will not include the "probable" designation. The availability reports will be in effect for nine Arizona games, starting with the Big 12 opener at Iowa State on Sept. 27.

The new availability reports will provide transparency and insight into player statuses for fans, coaches, and bettors alike. This move by the Big 12 Conference aims to enhance the overall experience and understanding of the games, creating a more informed and engaged audience. The implementation of availability reports is a significant step toward aligning college sports with professional standards, further blurring the line between the two levels of competition.
