Expanding the Bourne Universe: Universal Secures Rights to Jason Bourne and Treadstone Book Series

Universal has secured the rights to the Jason Bourne and Treadstone book series by Robert Ludlum, excluding publishing, in a long-term deal. This agreement allows NBCUniversal to explore new avenues for the beloved character and spy world in various formats such as film, television, and streaming. Producer Frank Marshall will continue to oversee the upcoming films in the franchise, working alongside Captivate's Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith, who have managed the rights for the Ludlum estate since 2001.
The Bourne franchise, which began in 2002 with "The Bourne Identity," has been a box office success, grossing over $1.64 billion globally across five films. In addition to the movies, there have been other adaptations like the short-lived TV series "Treadstone," video games, and The Bourne Stuntacular at Universal Studios Orlando. Universal Pictures is excited to continue expanding the Bourne universe with new stories that will captivate audiences worldwide.
Both Universal and Captivate Entertainment are enthusiastic about the future of the Bourne franchise under this new agreement. The iconic spy series has redefined the action genre since its inception, and the teams are eager to bring fresh and thrilling content to fans across various platforms. The deal was facilitated by WME, representing Captivate Entertainment, ensuring the continuation of the Bourne legacy under Universal's umbrella.
