Based on the novel "Shy" by Max Porter, the film follows Steve on a crucial day in the 1990s as he tries to protect the school for boys with behavioral issues facing closure. The film reunites Murphy with director Tim Mielants, who previously worked together on "Small Things Like These." Porter, the author of the novel, also wrote the screenplay and served as an executive producer. The cast includes Emily Watson, Little Simz, and Tracey Ullman in a rare dramatic role.
