Steve": Cillian Murphy Stars in Netflix Drama Premiering at TIFF

Cillian Murphy is set to star in the upcoming Netflix drama "Steve," which will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Platform Prize section. The official trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into the life of the troubled headteacher, Steve, who is fighting to save a last-chance reform school on the verge of closure while dealing with his own personal struggles.

Based on the novel "Shy" by Max Porter, the film follows Steve on a crucial day in the 1990s as he tries to protect the school for boys with behavioral issues facing closure. The story delves into the challenges faced by Steve and one of his students, Shy, who is grappling with his past and future while navigating his inner turmoil and violent tendencies.

The film reunites Murphy with director Tim Mielants, who previously worked together on "Small Things Like These." Porter, the author of the novel, also wrote the screenplay and served as an executive producer. The cast includes Emily Watson, Little Simz, and Tracey Ullman in a rare dramatic role.

"Steve" offers a different perspective from the novel "Shy," focusing on the struggles of the headteacher and his students. The film explores the pressures faced by Steve and Shy as they fight to save the school and shape their futures. Murphy drew inspiration from real teachers and personal experiences to bring authenticity to his role.

"Steve" will premiere at TIFF in September before being released on Netflix in October. Don't miss the trailer for a glimpse into this compelling drama.
