Ball State University Hosts Inaugural EA SPORTS™ College Football 26 Tournament: Uniting Cardinal Fans in Virtual Gridiron Glory

Ball State University is set to host its first-ever EA SPORTS™ College Football 26 tournament this Fall, bringing the excitement of college football to the virtual realm. The tournament is a collaboration between Ball State Athletics, the Division of Marketing and Communications, and the University’s Esports program. The game, released in July, follows the success of last year's relaunch of the college football video game series, garnering over 700 million plays nationwide and generating anticipation for new ways to engage with the game.

The single-elimination tournament will commence on Aug. 29 and run on Fridays through Sept. 26, with the championship match scheduled for Oct. 4. Registration for the tournament opened on Aug. 12 and will close on Aug. 26 at 11:59 p.m. Participants will play as Ball State in all tournament games, showcasing Cardinal pride. More details and registration information can be found on the tournament website.

Ball State Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell expressed excitement about hosting the tournament, highlighting it as a dynamic way to engage the Ball State community. The event aims to bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and fans in a fun and competitive environment centered around college football and gaming.

Participants in the tournament will compete in divisions based on on-campus and off-campus categories. Division winners will receive recognition on Ball State Athletics and Ball State Esports social media platforms, with the overall champion earning an exclusive football game day experience as Mr. Mitchell’s guest at a home Ball State football game. The prize package includes on-field access during part of the first quarter, a $50 gift card to Gameday Spirit, and other Athletics Department giveaways.

The tournament organization and execution will be overseen by Ball State Esports Director Dan Marino, who has set up the online infrastructure for registration, communication, and gameplay. To kick off the event, Ball State President Geoffrey S. Mearns and Mr. Mitchell faced off in the inaugural “Geoff vs. Jeff Bowl” on Aug. 14 at the Ball State Esports Center, with the Cardinals emerging victorious in a closely contested matchup.

In conclusion, Ball State University's EA SPORTS™ College Football 26 tournament promises to be an engaging and spirited event that brings together the Ball State community through a shared love of college football and gaming. With exciting prizes and opportunities for recognition, the tournament offers a unique platform for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans to connect and compete in a fun and competitive environment.
