The 76-year-old artist disclosed his diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) in May, which has been affecting his vision, hearing, and balance, leading to the cancellation of all his tour dates until July 2026.
As a result of his medical condition, Billy Joel's representative announced that he will be closing 20th Century Cycles in Oyster Bay by late September and organizing an auction later this year to sell his cherished collection of motorcycles. NPH is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the skull, putting pressure on the brain, typically affecting individuals over 65 years old and requiring surgical intervention to alleviate the symptoms.
In a statement released in May, Billy Joel mentioned that his recent concert performances had exacerbated his condition, causing issues with hearing, vision, and balance. Following his doctor's advice, Joel is undergoing specific physical therapy and refraining from performing during his recovery period. The motorcycle shop, which Joel opened in 2010, served as a hub for motorcycle enthusiasts to admire his collection of vintage bikes from the '30s to the '60s.
