Empowering Kamloops Youth: TRU Athletics and Play Forever Launch Basketball Camp

Thompson Rivers University's athletics department is introducing new youth sports and mentorship programs in collaboration with charity Play Forever. The inaugural program will be a basketball camp held weekly at the John Tod Community Centre gymnasium from September 16 to October 28. The camp will feature skills training, three-on-three games, group meals, and guest speakers every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
TRU's director of athletics and recreation, Curtis Atkinson, expressed gratitude to Clint Hamilton and the Play Forever team for their support in bringing this program to Kamloops. Play Forever, a registered charity, aims to remove barriers to recreation and education. The $10,000 contribution from Play Forever will facilitate local program coordination, staffing, and logistics.
The basketball camp will offer training sessions, tournaments, workshops, and outreach events to empower underserved youth in Kamloops. TRU Athletics will oversee the program's implementation, with a focus on providing accessible sports opportunities to the community. Registration forms for the camp can be obtained at BGC Kamloops or online.
The partnership between TRU, WolfPack Athletics, and Play Forever seeks to make a positive impact on youth in the Kamloops region. By working together, they aim to create opportunities for local youth through sports and mentorship programs. The basketball camp is just the beginning of their collaborative efforts to support the community's youth.
