Anya Taylor-Joy to Portray Joni Mitchell in Cameron Crowe's Highly Anticipated Biopic

Anya Taylor-Joy is currently in negotiations to portray the legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell in Cameron Crowe's long-awaited biopic. The film will showcase Mitchell during her prime years, with Meryl Streep taking on the role of Mitchell in her later years, particularly after her 2015 brain aneurysm. Taylor-Joy secured the role over Kristine Froseth, with her resemblance to Mitchell's appearance and her established reputation playing a significant role in the decision.
Initially eyeing a March production start, Crowe faced delays due to the January wildfires affecting his Los Angeles residence. The filming schedule may now shift to either fall or early 2026, but there are positive indications that progress is finally being made on Crowe's first narrative feature in over a decade. Crowe, known for hits like "Say Anything," "Jerry Maguire," and "Almost Famous," faced setbacks with later films like "Elizabethtown," "We Bought A Zoo," and "Aloha," prompting a hiatus from filmmaking.
The Joni Mitchell biopic holds personal significance for Crowe, who, as a former Rolling Stone journalist, has maintained a close friendship with Mitchell since the '70s. Collaborating on the script for nearly three years, Crowe and Mitchell aim to create a unique and non-traditional biopic that reflects their shared experiences and insights into Mitchell's life and career. With Taylor-Joy and Streep on board, the project is poised to bring Mitchell's story to the screen in a compelling and authentic manner.
