Capturing Joni: The Upcoming Biopic Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Meryl Streep

An upcoming biopic on the iconic singer Joni Mitchell will reportedly feature Anya Taylor-Joy and Meryl Streep in lead roles. Taylor-Joy is rumored to portray Mitchell during her prime years in the ’60s and ’70s, while Streep will depict the present-day version of the singer. Director Cameron Crowe, known for his work on films like Almost Famous and Say Anything, has a personal connection with Mitchell, having written a profile on her for a Rolling Stone cover story in 1979. Production on the biopic was delayed due to the recent Los Angeles wildfires, which affected Crowe's home, but is set to begin soon.
This project marks Crowe's return to filmmaking after a hiatus since his 2012 film Aloha. He had previously attempted to create a biopic on Marvin Gaye without success. Meanwhile, Joni Mitchell, at 81 years old, is gearing up to release a new box set titled Joni’s Jazz next month. The collection features recordings handpicked by Mitchell that showcase the profound influence of jazz on her music. The collaboration between Taylor-Joy, Streep, and Crowe promises to bring Mitchell's captivating story to life on the big screen, offering fans a deeper insight into the legendary singer's life and career.
