Experience Youth Hockey: Join GAHA's Try Hockey For Free Event on September 13th!

Join the Genesee Amateur Hockey Association (GAHA) at the David McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena on Evans Street on Saturday, September 13th for a Try Hockey For Free Event as part of “USA Hockey Week Across America.” This event will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. and is open to local youth aged 4 to 9. Participants will have the opportunity to learn basic hockey skills, including skating, shooting pucks, and interacting with goalies, all under the guidance of experienced coaches and on-ice helpers.
The event aims to introduce families from various local areas to the sport of ice hockey. The head coach for the event, Erik Triftshauser, along with other coaches and players from the GAHA organization, will be present to assist the youngsters on the ice. The goal is to provide a fun and educational experience for the children while promoting the sport of hockey in the community.
The Try Hockey for Free event is hosted by coordinators Sharon and Bob Gray, as well as GAHA Beginner Player Coordinator Marcia Barnes. The Genesee Amateur Hockey Association is dedicated to offering the hockey experience to young participants at no cost and encouraging them to join the GAHA Timbit Beginner Program, which kicks off in October. The program consists of two sessions with a total of 15 on-ice hours per session, providing a comprehensive introduction to the sport.
USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, supported by the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, offers children the opportunity to try hockey for free. Pure Hockey, a sponsor of USA Hockey, will provide free USA Try Hockey jerseys to each child participating in the event. Rental skates will be provided at no cost, and hockey sticks will be available for use during the event.
