Tom Morello Talks Rage Against The Machine's Tour Cancellation and Future Plans
In a recent radio interview with Chicago's Q101 (WKQX), Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine discussed the reasons behind the cancellation of the band's 2022 tour dates and the future of the group. The decision to cancel the European and UK tour was due to frontman Zack De La Rocha's Achilles tendon injury. Morello shared his own experience of rupturing his Achilles leading up to the tour and the band's commitment to performing despite challenges. Unfortunately, they had to cancel the remaining shows after De La Rocha's injury.
Regarding the future of Rage Against The Machine, Morello acknowledged the band's volatile nature but highlighted their achievements, including four great records and successful shows in 2022. He mentioned drummer Brad Wilk's social media post stating that the band would not tour or play live again in 2024. Morello reflected on the band's legacy and the impact of their music on fans, expressing his dedication to carrying on the spirit of their songs.
Since the band's hiatus, Morello has been actively involved in various projects. In 2023, he collaborated with Babymetal on the single METALI!! featured on the Metal Forth album. The following year, he performed as a solo artist at Download Festival in the UK and served as the musical director for Ozzy Osbourne's farewell concert at Birmingham's Villa Park in July 2025. Morello shared his admiration for Ozzy Osbourne and the privilege of being part of the legendary musician's final performance.
Looking ahead, Morello is set to tour North America for the rest of 2025. Additionally, he will co-direct a documentary on British heavy metal icons Judas Priest titled The Ballad Of Judas Priest. Despite the uncertainty surrounding future projects, Morello remains committed to preserving the essence of his music and the meaningful messages conveyed through his songs.
