Breaking Boundaries: Tyrel Neufeld and Red Cup Racing's Land Speed Records Journey

Tyrel Neufeld, a Kamloops local, is a key member of the Red Cup Racing team, known for breaking land speed records for over a decade. Neufeld, who works at Valley Custom Motorcycles, recently participated in the annual Speed Week event at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The team raced three motorcycles in various classes, setting five land speed records during the week-long event. Neufeld's bike reached speeds of up to nearly 160 miles per hour, surpassing the previous record of 157 miles per hour in a faster class. The team's success garnered respect and interest from other participants at the event.
Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for next year's competition by planning to build two new bikes to chase records in different classes. They also aim to enhance their existing 250 CC altered partial streamliner to reach speeds of 175 miles per hour, making it the smallest displacement bike ever to qualify for the long course at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Neufeld highlighted the challenges of building and testing the motorcycles, often working late hours and facing limited local testing facilities. Despite the obstacles, the team has set over 20 records over the years and currently holds about a dozen.
As they continue to push the boundaries of land speed racing, Neufeld and the Red Cup Racing team are determined to build on their success and set new records in the future. Their dedication to innovation and speed has solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the world of land speed racing.
