High school football kicked off with a bang on Thursday as teams from the City and Southern Sections battled it out in Week Zero matchups. In the City Section, Granada Hills dominated North Hollywood with a 50-16 victory. Meanwhile, in the Southern Section, Aliso Niguel defeated Beckman 38-3, Apple Valley triumphed over Orange Vista 20-6, and Beaumont crushed San Jacinto 58-14. Big Bear, Bolsa Grande, Chino Hills, Covina, and Desert Hot Springs also secured wins in their respective games.
The action continued with El Cajon Christian defeating Rancho Mirage 42-14, El Segundo overpowering South Pasadena 62-34, and Elsinore dominating Heritage 60-14. Etiwanda, Fountain Valley, Fontana, Fullerton, Gabrielino, and Hawthorne also emerged victorious in their matchups. Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Marina, Moreno Valley, Mountain View, and Murrieta Mesa added to the list of winning teams with impressive performances on the field.
The excitement didn't stop there as Perris narrowly edged out Bloomington 32-30, Public Safety Academy dominated Warner 70-8, and Ramona shut out Riverside North 13-0. Rosemead, San Gabriel, Summit, Tahquitz, Western, Whittier, Vista Murrieta, Yorba Linda, and Yucca Valley also secured wins in their Week Zero clashes. In the Southern Section, Cornerstone Christian defeated Santa Clarita Christian 63-12, while Cottonwood West Valley and Los Osos emerged victorious in their respective matchups.
