This summer, The Bay Theatre in Suttons Bay is offering a thrilling new experience for moviegoers: Formula 1 racing on the big screen. The nonprofit cinema has introduced a monthly programming feature, starting with the Belgian Grand Prix, allowing fans to enjoy the high-speed action with surround sound, coffee, and pastries. General Manager Graham Powers sees this as a way to expand the theatre's offerings and create more community-centered events.
The theatre's decision to showcase Formula 1 races was well-received by the community. The live viewing of the Belgian Grand Prix attracted around 55 people, including fans from various counties in the region. Despite a rain delay during the race, attendees enjoyed the social atmosphere, chatting with fellow fans and indulging in pastries and coffee.
Following the success of the Belgian Grand Prix screening, the theatre plans to feature one Formula 1 race per month. The Italian Grand Prix, Singapore Grand Prix, and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix were selected for their iconic status and appeal to fans. Powers believes that watching a race on the big screen offers a unique social experience that enhances the enjoyment for diehard fans.
In addition to showcasing Formula 1 races, The Bay Theatre is exploring new programming options to engage audiences beyond traditional movies. By hosting live events, watch parties, and performances, the theatre aims to foster human connection and provide a space for community members to come together. Partnering with local businesses like Hive Coffee adds to the communal atmosphere and encourages audience interaction.
