Selke Field Acquisition: A New Home for Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association
The Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association has recently purchased Selke Field in southeast St. Cloud from St. Cloud State University for $350,000. The organization, established in 1981, caters to around 1,100 children annually and manages approximately 25 competitive teams. Selke Field, a 16-acre property with a historic granite wall, has been a long-time rental location for the association, which now plans to make it their permanent base. The proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into upgrading facilities on the SCSU campus.
Selke Field, an off-campus facility since the 1930s, was last utilized by SCSU softball in 2024. The iconic granite wall surrounding the property, constructed during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration, is a notable feature of the site. CMYSA successfully raised over $100,000 through crowdfunding to acquire the property, with their initial focus being on assessing and repairing the 3,000-foot granite wall. The field has a rich history, having hosted SCSU commencement ceremonies in the early 1940s and numerous SCSU athletics events.
To celebrate the acquisition, the community is invited to a Selke Social event on September 21st from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will feature games and a 4-on-4 soccer tournament, providing an opportunity for the community to engage with the organization and the newly acquired field.
