Tragic Tour Bus Rollover on Interstate 90: Columbia University Student Among Victims
A tragic accident occurred on a rural stretch of Interstate 90 in upstate New York, resulting in the death of a Columbia University student and four other individuals. The student, Xie Hongzhuo, was among those killed in the tour bus rollover incident. The tour bus, operated by M&Y Tour Incorporated, was en route from Niagara Falls to New York City when it veered out of control, crossed the median, and overturned in Pembroke. The driver, Bin Shao, stated that he was distracted at the time of the crash and over-corrected, leading to the tragic accident. The bus had no mechanical issues, and the driver showed no signs of impairment.
A total of 21 patients from the crash were treated at Erie County Medical Center, with varying degrees of injuries. Some patients have been discharged, while others remain in stable condition or in the trauma intensive care unit. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an investigation into the incident, with multiple agencies and organizations involved in the response and support efforts.
The NTSB has dispatched a team to investigate the crash, and the bus has been taken to a state police barracks for further examination. Various agencies, including the New York State Police, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, and emergency management teams, collaborated in responding to the incident. Additional medical facilities and organizations were also involved in providing assistance to the victims of the tragic accident.
