Local Athletes Shine in Various Sporting Events: Eichel, Rollins, and Moreau Make Headlines

Jack Eichel is among the 44 players selected by USA Hockey to attend the U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp in Plymouth, Mich. The camp, which takes place over two days, does not involve on-ice activities and is pressure-free for Eichel, who is guaranteed a spot on the 2026 U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team. Alongside Eichel, five other players have secured spots on the team, including Austin Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk, Charlie McAvoy, and Quinn Hughes. The final 25-man roster will be announced in early January. Eichel, a center for the Vegas Golden Knights, had an impressive season with career highs in assists and points, leading his team to the 2023 Stanley Cup championship.
In another sporting event, the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour held a 125-lap race as part of the All That’s Metal Oxford 250 weekend in Oxford, Maine. Geoff Rollins, a Groton resident and seasoned racer, started strong in the main event, with Jimmy Renfrew, Jr., D.J. Shaw, and Trevor Sanborn also in contention. Despite a competitive field, Rollins finished in 11th place, while Joey Polewarczyk of Hudson, N.H., secured the 29th spot.
Meanwhile, Quail Ridge Country Club in Acton will host a Massachusetts Senior Amateur qualifier, where Rick Moreau of Nabnasset Lake CC, Max Candidu of Butter Brook GC, and Wayne Burgess of Long Meadow GC will compete for a chance to qualify for the main event at Worcester Country Club. The qualifier is open to amateur golfers aged 55 and older with an active Mass Golf membership.
In conclusion, Jack Eichel's participation in the U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp, Geoff Rollins' performance in the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour race, and the upcoming Massachusetts Senior Amateur qualifier at Quail Ridge Country Club showcase the talent and dedication of local athletes across different sports.
