Two South Florida business owners have been arrested for selling counterfeit sports apparel worth over half a million dollars. The couple operated multiple stores in the county, offering fake soccer items at a fraction of the real retail price. Silvia Soccer Liga Sports, owned by Julio Pillacelas Sanchez and Silvia Urgilez Guartan, promoted a variety of jerseys on social media, but authorities discovered that the products were counterfeit. The investigation, conducted by Miami-Dade deputies in collaboration with Homeland Security and brand investigators, revealed a significant amount of fake Adidas soccer sets and imitation major league soccer uniforms at one of the locations. The total retail value of the seized counterfeit products exceeded $530,000.
Julio Pillacelas Sanchez surrendered to authorities after his wife, Silvia Urgilez Guartan, was arrested earlier. The couple's sports apparel stores were found to be selling fake brand-name items, deceiving customers with the promise of representing countries like Ecuador or Portugal through their jerseys. The counterfeit operation was uncovered through a joint effort by law enforcement and brand investigators, who identified the illegal activities taking place at the stores. The discovery of thousands of fake Adidas soccer sets and imitation major league soccer uniforms at a wholesale distributor location in northwest Miami-Dade led to the arrest of the business owners.
Silvia Urgilez Guartan, who is currently out of jail, has pleaded not guilty to the charges related to the counterfeit sports apparel scheme. Her husband, Julio Pillacelas Sanchez, will also be released from jail pending trial.
