Danny Gatton: Live at the Holiday Inn 1987 - A Remastered Showcase of Guitar Virtuosity

Danny Gatton and Funhouse – Live at the Holiday Inn showcases the talents of the underrated electric guitar hero in a live performance from 1987. This new release, the first in nearly two decades, features Gatton tearing through 11 jazz standards on his iconic 1954 Gibson ES-295. The remastered performance by engineer Greg Lukens highlights Gatton's genre-bending skills and unique sound.
Despite not receiving as much recognition as other guitarists, Gatton is often hailed as the best rockabilly player in the world by those familiar with his work. His reputation grew from his performances at D.C. venue Gallagher's, where he drew in large crowds, leading to his eventual dismissal. Guitar Player scribe Dan Forte first took notice of Gatton in the late 1970s when his fans flooded the magazine's Readers Poll with votes for him in various categories.
Gatton's live performance at the Holiday Inn in 1987 allowed him to showcase his talents without any constraints. His interpretations of jazz standards like Quincy Jones' Killer Joe and Benny Goodman's A Smooth One demonstrate his unique style and virtuosity. The album also includes a tribute to one of Gatton's heroes, Lenny Breau, with the track One For Lenny.
Fans of Gatton may have seen bootlegged YouTube videos of this performance, but the official release has been remastered to correct technical faults in the original recording. The album, set to be released on August 29th, will be exclusively available on the Danny Gatton website. Don't miss the chance to experience the brilliance of Danny Gatton and Funhouse Live at the Holiday Inn 1987.
