From Chesterland to MLS: The Soccer Journey of Sam Sarver

Sam Sarver, a Chesterland native, recently signed a first-team contract with FC Dallas in Major League Soccer (MLS) for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with options for 2027 and 2028. He was drafted 41st in the 2025 MLS Superdraft after playing college soccer at Indiana University. Sarver started his career with FC Dallas' affiliate North Texas SC in the MLS Next Pro League before making his MLS debut on July 4. In his second MLS game on July 19, he drew a penalty kick to help FC Dallas defeat St. Louis City SC 3-0.
Growing up in Chesterland, Sarver has fond memories of playing soccer near Hawken High School and spending time outdoors with his family in Geauga County. His father, Dave, recalled how Sam's interest in soccer began at a young age when he saw kids playing the sport from a car window. Sam's early success in soccer led his father to build a soccer field outside their home for him and his sister to train on. These experiences in the community played a significant role in Sam's development as a soccer player.
Sarver's club soccer journey started with Cleveland Select, coached by Dani Giulvezan, near Hawken. He later joined AC Premier, coached by Zel Murasic, before moving on to play for Indiana University. Despite attending four different high schools, Sam's talent as an athlete was evident as he was part of the Columbus Crew SC Academy and the U16 U.S. Youth National Soccer Team. Playing at Indiana University allowed him to balance being away from home while still having his family's support.
Sam Sarver's soccer career has been shaped by his experiences in Chesterland and Geauga County, from his early days playing recreational soccer to signing a professional contract with FC Dallas in the MLS. His journey from playing in local clubs to representing the U.S. Youth National Team showcases his dedication and passion for the sport. As he continues his career with FC Dallas, the community in Chesterland celebrates his success and looks forward to seeing him excel on the field.
