Box Office Recap: Weapons Reigns Supreme Over Labor Day Weekend

The Labor Day weekend at the box office was relatively quiet for Hollywood, with the horror film "Weapons" reclaiming the top spot, earning $12.8 million over the holiday weekend. The movie has been a success for Warner Bros., bringing in $135 million domestically and $235.2 million globally on a $38 million budget. In second place, the re-release of the classic film "Jaws" celebrated its 50th anniversary with $9.9 million in earnings. "Caught Stealing," a crime thriller, came in third with $9.6 million, while the satire "The Roses" landed in fifth place with $8 million.

Disney's "Freakier Friday" took the fourth spot with $8.3 million in earnings. The Labor Day weekend box office total was around $82 million, a 26% decrease from the previous year. With the next major release, "Tron: Ares," not scheduled until October 10, it looks like there will be a lull in blockbuster releases for a while.
